Switch the AI Assistant On or Off in a Sandbox

On the My MCP Guard page, each user decides for themselves whether their AI assistant may reach the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central sandbox environment they are in. Switch it off when you only work in production, so that the assistant does not show you the sandbox. Switch it on again when you want to test. Your administrator still decides what the assistant may do: the switch never gives more than your rule.

Before you start

  • You need the permission set MCP GUARD - USER. A user without an MCP Guard licence can also use the page in a sandbox environment. See Assign Licences.
  • The switch is on by default.
  • The switch only works in a sandbox environment.

Switch the AI assistant off or on

  1. In the sandbox environment, choose the search icon (Tell Me), enter My MCP Guard, and then choose the related link.
  2. Turn AI Assistant in This Sandbox off or on.

What happens

  • Off: the mcpUserSettings API page answers as if no rule applies to you. The BC MCP Pro connector then leaves the sandbox out, and the assistant only shows the environments you work in.
  • On again: the sandbox is back for the assistant within ten minutes.
  • Per environment: the switch is kept per environment, so you switch it in the sandbox itself. Every sandbox has its own switch.
  • Production: a production environment ignores the switch. The page shows the switch greyed out.

An MCP client that reads the rule while the switch is off gets this message:

No MCP Guard rule applies to you in this sandbox environment right now: you switched off the AI assistant for yourself here. Switch it on again on the page My MCP Guard in this environment.

See Troubleshoot Rules and Licences.

What the administrator sees

On the MCP Guard User Settings page, the Switched Off by User column is selected on the line of a user who switched the AI assistant off in this environment. The administrator cannot change it there: the switch belongs to the user. On the MCP Guard Administration page, the My MCP Guard action opens this page.
